South College Street in Auburn to be partially closed until June

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - Starting on Monday, Jan. 7th, Auburn University will begin construction work on South College Street between Woodfield Drive and Kimberly Drive. During construction, the inside lanes (northbound and southbound) will be temporarily closed. Motorists are advised to exercise caution in the area. New landscaped medians and electrical lighting will be constructed as part of improvements associated with the Jay and Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center. Work is expected to last through June 2019. Auburn University will be temporarily closing South College Street, located between Kimberly Drive and Woodfield Drive, starting on Monday, January 7, 2019. The temporary closure will specifically affect South College Street's northbound and southbound lanes. The planned closure will be implemented due to the construction of electrical lighting and landscaped medians which are part of the improvement of the University's Jay and Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center. Auburn University is advising motorists to take caution in the affected areas. The construction works are estimated to last until June 2019. South College Street will be opened once the construction is completed.


Chewacla State Park in Auburn, AL

Chewacla State Park is home to the 26-acre Lake Chewacla which is a popular destination for activities such as non-motorized boating, swimming and fishing. The 698-acre publicly-owned park features trails for hiking and mountain biking activities, and well-maintained facilities for tent camping. It also features renovated cabins and RV-related facilities. At present, the public recreation area is operated by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
